Pls help to solve this problem
Is x + y < 1?

(1) x < 8/9 or x < 64/72; NOT sufficient.
(2) y < 1/8 or y < 9/72; NOT sufficient.

Combining (1) and (2), x + y < 64/72 + 9/72 or x + y < 73/72, which implies x may or may not be less than 1; NOT sufficient.

The correct answer is E.
