Company X

by crackgmat007 » Sun Jun 28, 2009 11:53 am
The number n of units of its product that Company X is scheduled to produce in month t of its next fiscal year is given by the formula n = 900/(1+C2^-t), where c is a constant and t is a positive integer between 1 and 6, inclusive. What is the number of units of its product that Company X is scheduled to produce in month 6 of its next fiscal year?
(1) Company X is scheduled to produce 180 units of its product in month 1 of its next fiscal year.
(2) Company X is scheduled to produce 300 units of its product in month 2 of its next fiscal year.

Statement I

n=180
t = 1

Put these 2 values in the equation, n = 900/(1+C2^-t), to find the value of C

180 = 900/(1+C2^-1) = 900/(1+C/2) = 900/(2+C)/2 = 1800/(2+C)

180(2+C) = 1800

2+C = 10

C = 8

Now you can put the value of C in the original equation, with t=6, and find the value of n.

Sufficient.

Statement II

Do the same as I did in statement I,

Sufficient.

Hence D.

Hope this helps.

This problem is not so bad, once you figure out what they are asking for.

you can infer from the question stem that t is the month number. When they say t is a positive integer from 1 to 6, they mean months 1 through months 6.

so you have 2 variable's in the equation. They give you t, and they ask you to find n, by deriving c.

1) you can figure out c, by plugging in 180 and t = 1.

since c is constant, we can use the same C, and figure out n. so it is sufficient.

2) same exact scenario for case 2, so this is sufficient as well.
