Circle and slope question

by austindude » Sun Dec 16, 2007 10:52 am
Will the line K intersect the Circle with radius=1 and origin as the center.

1.X-intercept is greater than 1
2.The slope of line k is -1/10

This is a really confusing question. With slope=-1/10, the line would make an angle close to 175 degrees with the X-axis, which shows that the linke K is almost parallel to x - axis, which would intersect the circle. BUt I am wrong as the answer is not B. Please help.

You are right about line k being "almost" parallel to the x-axis, but with the x intercept being greater than 1 it could be 1,000,000, which would mean that k doesn't intercept the circle, or it could be 2, in which case it does. I have to go with E.
