Contestants in 100m Relay Race

by harsh.champ » Tue Feb 09, 2010 5:32 am
P, Q and R are three contestants, and they are participating in 100 m relay race. Who gets the first prize?

I. P gets either the third prize or the second prize, and R gets either the second prize or the first prize.
II. P, Q and R are only contestants, and Q does not get the third prize.
It takes time and effort to explain, so if my comment helped you please press Thanks button :)

Just because something is hard doesn't mean you shouldn't try,it means you should just try harder.

I. p= 2nd or 3rd, R=1st or 2nd
so condition 1: p=2nd, so R=1st and q=3rd ....i
condition2: p=3rd, so R=1st and q=2nd...ii
condition3: p=3rd, so R=2nd and q=1st ....iii

not sufficient

II. Q=2nd or 1st..not sufficient

combined : Q=2nd or 1st for this we have 2 condition ii and iii

so ans is E
