b) x^2 is an integer

x^2= 4 y=9 the condition would be true

x^2=2 y= 47/5 the condition would be true

INSUFF

Stmt I

1<x<4

x=2 and x^2= 4 y=9 the condition would be true

x=sqrt(2) and x^2=2 y= 47/5 the condition would be true

INSUFF

TOGETHER:

same examples above

INSUFF

E

Takeaway:x^2 is an integer does not mean x is an integer unless it is explicitly stated in the problem

P.S. Useful to know

SQRT(2) = 1.414
SQRT(3) = 1.732
SQRT(5) = 2.23
