What is x?

by lazyfox » Fri Aug 28, 2009 9:26 am
If 8x > 4 + 6x, what is the value of the integer x?

(1) 6 - 5x > -13

(2) 3 - 2x < -x + 4 < 7.2 - 2x

My answer does not match with the OA so thats why I wanted to get the opinion of the forum. Please make your comments and I will post the OA in few hours.

Simplifying what is stated in the question

==> 2x > 4

==> x > 2

From Statement I

5x < 19

As x is an integer ... and x > 2 it has to be 3... So I is sufficient.

From Statement II

LHS

3-2x < -x + 4
-1 < x

RHS

-x + 4 < 7.2 - 2x
x < 3.2

So -1 < x < 3.2

Again x is 3

So II is sufficient as well

Ans - D
