I totally agree with you - share knowledge to gain knowledge and vice-versa

Choice A is correct and here is why:

(A) that flourished at the same time as the civilizations

uses 'that' to introduce a clause - check
no past perfect tense - check
it would have been better if 'as' was accompanied by a 'verb'

(B) that had flourished at the same time as had the civilizations
can't use the past perfect tense 'had' as there is no action suggested in the sentence superseding the flourish of these civilizations.

(C) that flourished at the same time those had
can't use the past perfect tense 'had' as there is no action suggested in the sentence superseding the flourish of these civilizations.

(D) flourishing at the same time as those did
does not use 'that' to introduce a clause
can't use flourishing - must use past tense as the civilizations do not exist any more.

(E) flourishing at the same time as those were
does not use 'that' to introduce a clause
can't use flourishing - must use past tense as the civilizations do not exist any more.

Guys - Can anyone explain me about this piece of the sentence

the site of an ancient civilization that flourished at the same time as the civilizations in the Nile delta and the river valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates.

I am thinking that the parallelism in this sentence is with the word "Flourished".

When we talk about the civilizations in the nile delta and the river valleys of the tigris and euphrates, where are we mentioning that these civilizations flourished as well?

Should we not include a word 'did' at the end of the sentence to maintain the parallelism?

Thanks![/b]
