Concept: present participle phrases

by haveto » Thu Jun 10, 2010 7:13 pm
"Classical guitar was neither prestigious nor was often played in concert halls until the wooden frame was revived by Andres Segovia in the mid-twentieth century, having been won over by the instrument's sound despite its relative obscurity."

Qus 1: In this sentence, "having been" is modifying "wooden frame" or "classical guitar"?
Qus 2: I didn't know but I learned that present participle phrases (PPP) can modify noun or verb both. Is there anyway we can distinguish between PPP modifying nouns and PPP modifying verbs?

Thank you.

Thanks Hardik. I have very less time left before I appear for the real one so I just decided to post two of my questions without researching much. Sometime while researching you land up with a thread which is long but isn't adding any value; so sorry for posting redundant questions.

The thread you posted definitely helped me.... Thanks.
