First thing to note is that this is a yes/no question. So write down yes/no.
1.) x<3 and y<2
INSUFFICIENT:
If x is 2 and y is 1 then yes, xy is less than 6. But what if x is -5 and y is -2? Then it would be +10. So it is insufficient data.
2.) 1/2 < x < 2/3 and y^2 < 6
We know x is a positive fraction. A spot in between 1/2 and 2/3. So x is a positive fraction. y^2 (anything squared is always positive)is less than 6. This must mean that xy is less than 6.
So the answer is "NO" however, it doesn't matter. We have enough data to decide with 2.) so the answer is B.
