Prompt: ”Primary and secondary education should focus on training students for the highly specialized jobs of the future, rather than on providing them with a broad range of non-specific skills and information.”

The issue is whether primary and secondary education should focus on training students for the highly specialized jobs of the future or provide them with a broad range of non-specific skills and information. The advantages of traning students on a broad range of non specific skills and information outweigh the advantages of the training students for highly specialized jobs.

First of the advantages is that, a student, who is provided a broad range of non-specific skills and information has, the non specific skills allow the student to grow intellectually. The student will tend to think multi-dimensionally on a variety of subjects.

Second of the advantages is that, the students with a broad range of skills, will be free to pursue a career of their interest based on skills and information they have gained over the period of their education.

Additionally,in the modern work envirnoment, a corporation will seek a person who will be able to perform a multitude of tasks rather that one specialized job. The people who are one-dimensional will be a great disadvantage.

One small advantage that a student with specialised training is that, he will be able to perform that specialised job better than others initially and will carry a lot f confidence to do that particular specialised job.

Considering the advantages that broad range of non-specific skills and information provides to a student over the highly specialized skill, it can safely be concluded that it is better to train a student on a broad range of non-specific skills and information.
