1st Practice test: 710 (44Q, 42V)

I just took the MGMAT practice test, and that was my score. Quant is 73 percentile, Verbal 96 percentile. My actual test is on September 14.

I am missing 1 or 0 for RC and CR, and am getting nearly all of the SC wrong. I do have the MGMAT SC guide - should I use that or is there a better alternative? So my Verbal score is 42 in the 96%. I really want to get it in the 99% so I do need a solid SC prep book - am not taking a course.

For Quant, I'm terrible, which is odd because this area used to be my strong point.

In the MGMAT score breakdown, I am getting nearly all the "Number Properties" section wrong (86% wrong). (which is Freakin Odd because I just recently went through that entire book + practice problems) Getting 50% wrong for "Fractions Decimals & Percents" section, 40% wrong for "Geometry", and 55% wrong for "Word Translations." 12% wrong for the "Algebra" portion.

This is looking terrible on the Quant side - do any of you have tips on how to get in the 90+% area?


My study plan was to go through each of the MGMAT Quant books - am currently >50% done. But I'm not having much success in areas of focus. AHHHHHHH Tips please Tips. I'm really freaking out because I've been studying Quant for the past 3 weeks without Verbal at all. After finishing all the Number Properties, it just doesn't make sense that I'm getting 6 wrong out of 7.

First of all, MGMAT quant can be a b*tch. I've taken 4 of their tests so far and I swear it goes from hard to impossible. Across the 4 tests, my average quant score was 44. But my average quant score in more reliable GMAT Prep/Powerprep is right around 49. So I think you should take a GMAT Prep if you want a more realistic score.

I think MGMAT's sentence correct is very comprehensive and is generally highly recommended. I went through that and through their reading comprehension guide. I think their RC guide is not helpful at all and actually caused me to spend a lot more time on each question without improvement.

Also, keep in mind that the percentile scores are a bit skewed because of the influx of new Indian applicants. They tend to do very well on math and poorly on verbal (since for most English is not their native tongue).

In my experience I believe the actual GMAT and GMAT Prep was harder on the Verbal side then MGMAT exams

MGMAT is a bit harder then actual GMAT / GMAT Prep on the Quant side

For SC .... try and start memorizing the idioms typically used in GMAT.. found in solution on MGMAT SC questions, and OG solutions to SC questions. That massively helped my SC.

Agree with The Duke. The difficulty curve increases at a steeper rate on the MGMAT tests than on the actual GMAT (in my opinion). I consistently scored lower on the MGMAT tests quant than on GMATPrep. I ended up with a good score on the actual GMAT. So I think you'll be fine.

In the MGMAT CATs, if you're scoring at a high level, you might encounter 8-10 so-called '700-800' questions. But on the actual test, those '700-800' questions are probably more like '800-900' questions. You might get one or two. But they're nowhere near as hard. So don't lose confidence. Try to get as high a score as possible on the MGMAT CATs. It will translate to better performance on the actual GMAT.

Really appreciate all your comments - will start hitting the MGMAT sentence correction + idioms so hopefully I can get the 99% mark in verbal.

Thanks for the confidence boosts on the math - gosh GMAT is full of surprises.
