A has $18 more than what B_C together would have had if both B and C had 1/4 of what A has. How much does A have?
(A) 20
(B) 32
(C) 36
(D) 40
(E) 48

Let a,b and c be the amounts A, B and C have respectively.

If both B and C had 1/4 of a, then b = a/4 and c= a/4

B+ C would have had a/4 + a/4 = a/2

If the above was the case, A would've had $18 more than the above

=> a = 18 + a/2 => a = 36

(C) should be the answer
