Need advice - application to Top tier schools

by Vu » Sun Nov 30, 2008 7:04 am
I have taken my gmat but not at a score i had expected (only scored 640, with 84% for Q and 48% V, and AWA at 5.5).

I really plan to apply for Harvard, Stanford and Chicago. Im aware the GMAT score is low compared to the average of these schools.

Really appreciate your advice if i should wait until round 3 (which will give me time to re-take my gmat - as im quite confident i can increase my score by then), or should i just give it a shot and go for round 2 (given the less chance in round 3)?

A bit of my background - I'm from Vietnam, i graduated and ranked 1st from my university (we dont have GPA), have 4 years work experience, 2 years in VN and close to 2 years abroad, in Logistics industry. Have quite a strong background of extra-curricular activities.

Look forward to hearing from you soon

Hi Vu,
Quick answer - it is very difficult to get admission into a top MBA program in R3. Usually 90% (or more) of the class has been admitted in the first two rounds.

If you are adamant about attending the schools listed, then I would encourage you to retake the GMAT; and if needed apply next year. Otherwise, consider broadening your school range.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
