That's what I thought, but the answer is 27... could it be a wrong OA?

Baldini, the OAs correct.
i made the same mistake the other day. Its 27 (boxed) and not 27.
27 boxed being odd gives 27*3=81 which is what we get from boxed 9 * boxed 6

Exactly, we need to find what value "de-boxed" :) would also give 81.
So, 27 is odd-->27*3=81
