Folks:

I am planning to appear in test in June. My target is 770+ score. This will be my first attempt. Is there anybody else in same boat? Seniors are welcome on this forum to guide me. Please share any strategy, Plan, gimmicks.. I have few questions and all are welcome to post thier reply:

1. As we all are know that In order to achieve that score, One has to work on high difficulty level questions in Math and verbal section. In Maths, if continously I will be able solve few first questions right and I start getting questions from high difficulty coordinate geometry or advance Calculus then should I assume that I am going in right direction? Please reply..

2. In mathematics, Looking at question's complexity, one can assume that he is getting harder questions and going in right direction but How to judge this trend in verbal secton? What are general attributes of verbal section which can indicate that this question is high difficulty level?

3. This is imperative that solving high difficulty level question will take extra time so It is very possible that first 20-25 questions were well answered in each section (Verbal & Quantitative) but because of time shortage some weren't. How generally winners have managed? Seniors advise please..

You are completely mistaken. There is no calculus on the GMAT. The myth is that the most difficult questions are probability / combinations / permutations. However, some of the most difficult problems are number properties questions in the form of Data Sufficiency. The concepts in the GMAT are not difficult, they are just tested in unusual ways that require you to peel away layers of nuance and subtlety, and to do it in a short period of time. You could score 770 without seeing a single probability/permutation/combination or coordinate geometry problem. Bottom line is you should buy the Official Guide to see what kind of questions will be asked. And take GMAT Prep I available for free at mba.com.

770 is very difficult to achieve especially if you are taking the test in JUne and have not began to prepare... but nothing is impossible so why not aim for 770...

Actually 770 is the least I need otherwise I will continue to sit in test and prepare. In general I need something which push the bar a little extra that's why I said 770+ means 780-790. Let's see where it takes.

Have you taken a practice test? If so, what did you score?

Yes I have taken 4 practice tests of Manhattan GMAT and Peterson:
1st Practice test (Peterson) 690
2nd Practice test (MGMAT) 710
3rd practice test (Peterson) 670
4th Practice test (MGMAT) 790
The reason I am a bit nervous about actual exam is the infrastructure and other atmosphere because taking a test in home atmosphere and in test center is a bit different. Secondly I just did verbal and quantitative section not AWA because I was more curious about my test score.

Hey man those are really great scores. I got the impression that MGMAT tests are a bit harder than the real test, so maybe with some seriously intensive prep you have a chance. Don't know about Peterson.

Always always ALWAYS do the AWA. Do not trust your scores from practice tests where you don't. It's not really about prepping for the AWA, though obviously, you want to do that too.

Going into quant fresh is a lot different than going into quant when you've just written two essays in an hour. It requires a mental "switch" from analytic and qualitative thinking to quantitative thinking, and you'll be a little worn out. It may or may not change your score, but as has been said before, the GMAT is a marathon, and you need to prep for the whole shabang.

Yeah I agree that I should have taken AWA as well. Perhaps in next prep test I will try do test in exact exam style with everything. My biggest weakness is that once I solve few questions and I know that I did 16-17 questions right then my mind get diverted, I can't concentrate on test further. Stupid thoughts start coming in mind.
