Hi all,
I know that its pretty natural that people often tend to take gmat 2nd time in order to reach their dream scores.
I have heard from one of my friends that taking gmat multiple times ie more than 3 times or so, would make one to get into the trouble and most top schools wouldn't consider the applicant if he has taken gmat for more than 3 or 4 times (even if the latest scores are high enough).

Just wanted to know to what extent this is true.

Here is the totem pole of score results and attempts.

Rank #1: High GMAT score - 1st Attempt.

Rank #2: High GMAT score - 2nd/3rd Attempt.

Rank #3: Low GMAT score - number of attempts doesn't really matter.

So rather than apply to a top school with a poor GMAT score (anything that is on the lower end of the median 80% for example) it is better to apply with a higher score - even if you took a few times to take it.

I don't think Bschools look at it as adversely as people make it out to be. Sure getting a 750+ on the first attempt is cool but if you didn't do that - what options do you have?
