Profile Evaluation - 550

GMAT- 550 (math 39, verbal 27) AWA - n/a since test taken recently

Education - 3.0 gpa from mid-tier UC

Work - 1 year full time and 2 year part-time work experience in A/R department of mid-sized company

What are my chances for CSU-Fullerton, SDSU, Cal Poly Pomona, and CSU-LA.

I'm also considering MS in Accountancy programs if my chances for MBA programs aren't that good.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi. I'm not super-familiar with the programs that you mention but, if the numbers (GPA and GMAT) seem to line up then it sounds like you have a good shot.

One thought about the masters in accounting, though. A masters in accounting and an MBA are very different creatures. Usually a masters in accounting is fairly specialized (e.g., tax, forensic, etc.) and will further limit your options in the field of accounting. I wouldn't do a masters in accounting unless I really wanted to stay in accounting and was doing a degree in the accounting area that interested me.

An MBA is much broader and more general (which both helps and hurts; as a friend points out, you are qualified for more jobs but, then again, there are more people w/ your qualifications, too). It is both a management degree and a technical skills degree whereas a masters in accounting is really a purely technical degree.
