Another Profile Evaluation

by jarinwallah » Sun Oct 02, 2011 1:21 pm
Hi,

Could any one of you have a look at my profile and comment on my college selection?

Indian, Male, 28
GMAT -730 (Q50, V38, AWA5.5)
Education - NIT, Mechanical Engineering (71%) (NIT are second most reputed colleges after IIT)
Six year of work-ex in IT industry with high performance,
worked in all aspect of software development
won employee of month/quarter awards
More than 2 years of international exp
Extra Curricular - participated in and organised quizzes, part of book club at organisation level and also part of the team which publish a monthly magazine in the organisation.
Post-MBA: to enter in business consultancy (ambitious goal) or to continue in IT as business analyst or product manager (secondary goal, but one for apps) and ultimately CTO.

Not so good part - besides the competitive pool of Indian IT candidates, not gread acads (XII - 68.9, X-77.5), work ex in same company and same account and perhaps EC's are not up there.

So far, I've short listed -
Ross
Emory
Kelley
Cambridge,
Oxford,
INSEAD and
NUS

Is there any other college in US/UK/Asia known for bent towards tech consultancy that I should look at? Besides I have also have financial constraint and will financial aid to cover the expenses.

thanks.

Dear jarinwallah,

I think your current school list is appropriate for your profile. You have a mix of reach and reasonable programs. For success at any of these schools, your applications will need to be strong in total, so use every piece to your advantage--great essays, stellar recommendations, and outstanding interview. There are many, many options out there in all regions of the world. You might look at where tech consulting firms you plan to target for your job search recruit MBAs as a way to identify programs; that way, you know those firms believe those programs are preparing graduates well and a recruiting relationship exists.

Good luck,
Lisa

Thanks a lot Lisa. Been quite some time since I browsed this site as I've been busy in interviews of Indian schools like ISB and IIM.

Thanks for your suggestion regarding consulting firms. I've a more of geography preference than company preference. For example, I would like to work in US / UK if I get in any school over there rather than say coming back to India, where I know there's a big market for IT consultancy.

I will dig more around it. Thanks once again for your advice.
