Hello,

I took my first attempt at GMAT in aug. and ended getting 640 (Q49,V29)and retook the test in sept and scored only 680 (50Q,V32) though i felt like i did really well :(.

Profile -
India Male worked in financial services for last 4 years ( Capital One - 2 years , Barclays - 2 years) 2 years as a risk analyst and currently work as a marketing analyst managing the internet marketing for Barclays

Additionally worked at a start up for 7 months and started my own site. Intend to use my MBA to start my own company

Undergrad school - Osmania Univ.

I am looking to apply to Ross,NYU, Colombia and Haas and am confused if i should give my Gmat again and try to push it over 700 or try and concentrae on my application. Can i use my interaction with start ups and my interest to start one make my stand apart from the crowd ?

Hi Varun,

Thanks for your post. When it comes to advice about retaking the GMAT, I tend to believe that I am not the best person to make that decision. Only you know if you can truly improve your score. Given that you have already taken the exam twice, do you think it's likely you can increase your score to 700 or higher?

I do think a higher score will help boost your overall profile and appeal as well as put you on par with the scores of your peers in the applicant pool. However, if you don't feel you can increase your score it may not be worth the time and energy required to study and retake the exam.

At the end of the day you have to be the one to decide. It's always best to apply to business school when you feel ready and that you are putting your best foot forward in all areas of the application and thus if you feel you could increase your score retaking might make sense. A great way to make a decision as to whether or not to retake is to simply ask yourself this question - if you apply with your current score and don't get in will you regret that you didn't retake the exam?

Regards,

Stacey
