Hi,

I am confident you will eventually get into a top MBA program: your GMAT is outstanding, your GPA from Temple is solid (btw I went to Haverford down the road and played soccer against Temple) and you performed very well in your masters. So there will be no doubts about your intellectual firepower, and the best schools are still looking to push up there quality female admits.

The only potential red flag is your work experience given you spent a year in a lab and then a couple teaching. Ideally you would want to push the managerial appects of your lab ops job, and why exactly you want to pursue an MBA tying in your education focus. Certainly taking a job working in school operations, or helping manage a charter school might make you an even more attractive to b schools. But if you want to apply now, you still have a good shot given your special accomplishments to date (yes including the pageant).

You certainly seem like the kind of person who would have the bandwidth to apply to more schools and you may want to check out Yale--on the rise and a great tradition of social entrepreneurship.

If you'd like to talk more about your situation, email me your resume to [email protected] and we can set up a chat.

Regards,

Hi JHF

Since you are aiming for top schools then a score above 700 is desirable. However GMAT alone won't determine your chances of admission; beyond the academics will also help you in determining your candidature and your work experience plays a vital role as well. Generally applicants have a good 4-5 years of work experience.

Although it is not just the work experience that counts but also what you did there like-what were your achievements, what initiative you took, what changes you drove in your workplace etc. So to leverage yourself you need to ensure that in 3 years of work experience you have demonstrated the skills business schools are looking for.

This could still put in a strong set of essays for you. Start thinking what makes you unique and what's that 'hook' that will be key to your application. Make sure you follow the 'show rather than tell' principle so that the admissions committee could really understand your strengths and differentiating factors." Hence the quality of your work, your academics and beyond academics will play an important role in determining your candidature.
