house to the library

by sanju09 » Thu Apr 09, 2009 2:07 am
If it took Carol 1/2 hour to cycle from his house to the library yesterday, was the distance that he cycled greater than 6 miles? ( 1 mile = 5,280 feet)

(1) The average speed at which Carlos cycled from his house to the library yesterday was greater than 16 feet per second.

(2) The average speed at which Carlos cycled from his house to the library yesterday was less than 18 feet per second.

Lets rephrase the question

S = d/t
S = 6/(1/2) mph
S = 12 mph OR S = (12*5280)/(60*60) = 17.6 feet per sec

so the question is asking was the speed of Carlos > 12mph or > 17.6 feet per sec

stmt I

S > 16 fps, it could be anything 16.1,16.2,17, 20 fps

Insuff

Stmt II

S < 18, it could be 17.9,16,15,10, 17.6 fps

Insuff
Stmt I & II

16 < S < 18

it could be 16.2,17.5,17.9, 16.7 fps
