Profile Eval for ISB 2017

Hi Guys,

It would be great if you could shed some light at my chances this year or whether I should go for next year with improvements in my profile.

Age: 24
Xth: 92% (ICSE)
XIIth: 88% (CBSE)
UG: 8.22 (Mech Engg/IIT jodhpur)
GMAT: 720 (50/37/7)
Work Ex: 39 months (Flipkart)

Currently, a Senior Manager (3 consecutive promotions) at Flipkart looking Returns Strategy. Started out as an Analyst in the Catalogue dept. Worked on numerous projects that bolstered product conversion.

In Returns, launched a program that brought in net savings worth Rs.84 crores/annum. There have been numerous other projects as well. let me no if need to elaborate.

Hobbies: Cooking, Reading Fiction

Extra Curriculars: Counselling Service, Fine Arts Club, Anchored a few events

You stand a good chance.

Positives:
1) Good linear work ex at just one firm, with steady progression. Good proxy for leadership and management potential.
2) Clear outcomes at work. You can have a field day in essays.
3) You would have about 48 months work ex, by the time you get in.

Negatives:
1) Jodhpur is amongst the latest crop and the IIT tag won't hold much value.

You'd need to present your credentials in a coherent manner in the application package and essays.

Hi sattyj

- Pretty good chances at ISB. Good GMAT score, well-known employer (and one which lies within a growing industry for ISB as well), and some good professional achievements. Your acads are pretty good and the IIT tag (though it is one of the newer IITs) will help as well. ECA is fine as well.
- You are all set to apply and would have pretty good chances with a decent application. Focus on clarity with respect to your goals, the need for an MBA, and fit with ISB.

A few additional perspectives here S:
  1. While the career progression sounds impressive, it will also be important to understand your post-MBA plans. I am guessing that part of the maturity beyond years can be showcased given your promotion spree
  2. The GMAT and GPA would make things a bit less competitive against the IITian crowd in general. That said, there is definite merit in giving things a shot this year. ISB is known to be re-applicant friendly - though hopefully it won't come to that.
  3. It is not clear if any of your ECs are recent or all during college? That can provide additional color to the profile
