Hi. Please evaluate my profile.

Me: 32,Indian,Male

GMAT: I have a bit low score. I want to apply for Fall 2014

490 (Q35, V20)

I wont be giving another attempt now.
I plan to apply with the same score.

Toefl: 89

Work exp: 8 years of experience by the time I join school. I have worked for one of the best IT companies in India and I have a part time business also.

Undergrad: MCA from a good college(one of the best in the city).

Extracurriculars:
-volunteer for the corporate social responsibility at my office.

Post MBA goals: to work in management consulting.

Looking for: MBA in strategy management. Schools with good placement record.

Concerns:
1.Because my GMAT is on the lower side I am not able to decide which schools to apply.

3.Please suggest me some colleges where I do stand a chance as it is very late. I want to apply for Fall 2014.

Dear Abhi_gmat123,

There are multiple challenges you are working against. Given you have significant work-ex, I would strongly recommend you to consider a GMAT retake if you hope to have any realistic chances. Read here for some more perspective on this. Even the schools mentioned on this link will be difficult to break into with that score.

If you didnt use it the first time around, seriously evaluate taking professional help for the GMAT reattempt.

For this year, I would seriously doubt you can apply to a respectable school. Rather than invest time and resources now, a more prudent strategy will be to apply with full force in the next cycle (even if it is getting late for you to do you MBA).

Hope this sparks a few thoughts.

Cheers,

Both the 490 and 89 are too low. Did you go to an undergraduate institution in India which was taught in English (precluding the need to take the TOEFL)? Even so, the GMAT score is presently too low to be competitive. I am sorry.
