Do GMAT Prep courses really help?

Something I always tell students who are waffling regarding whether to dish out $1,500 for a prep course: think like a business person!

It's an investment. Let's say that you could improve 50 points on your own, but 100 points with a prep course. Let's further assume that that would be the difference between getting a 650 and a 700.

650 is (roughly) the average score at good, midrange schools such as U of Arizona. 700 (roughly) is the average score at the tippity top schools such as Stanford and Harvard.

Would you spend $1,500 to go to Stanford instead of Arizona?

(I think that's a rhetorical question!)
