pls assist in understanding the problem

Susan has a 5-foot long bookshelf that she wants to fill with 22 books of differing sizes. Each book can fit on the shelf, but they cannot all fit on the shelf. In order to fit all of her books on the same shelf, she would need a 5.5-foot long bookshelf. What is the maximum number of books she can fit on her shelf?

(1) The 8 thinnest books each have a thickness of 2 inches.

(2) The 2 thickest books each have a thickness of 5 inches.

First start with the thickness of all of her books

5.5 ft x 12 in = 66in.

66/22 = 3 inches

She can fit 60 inches of books.

A) You really don't know the thickness of the other books. If they are all just over 3 inches you would be able to fit a different amount than if you had 2 that were 6 for example

B) Just these last 2 books will not fit, because you have 59 inches of books remaining to fit in 60 inches of space.
