Should present metal prices continue their sharp rise, the value of the copper in a penny will soon be greater than the face value of the coin.

a. Should present metal prices continue their sharp rise,
b. If present metal prices are continuing their sharp rise,
c. If present metal prices continue to sharply rise,
d. Continuation of sharply rising metal prices should mean that
e. Metal prices' sharp rise continuing should mean that

confusion is between A and C

there is no much difference between the usage of should and if..

C fails because of " to sharply rise"

karthik i have read for subjunctive

PARTICULAR CASE(future)---if PRESENT,then future..no uncertainity
as in this case..moreover Then can be dropped from the sentence

may be to sharply rise..is causing error split infinitive thats y.

is it true??

A should be the answer. In C ..sharply is an adjective that should not modify a verb 'rise'.
