why not A but E

Which is not appropriate in this context could refer to $950 million and not the color printing division which is what is part of the deal.

as part of a deal that

as part of a deal is idiomatic.

IMO D

"950 mln" refers to "as part..." which comes right after its modifiers.

950 million doesn't make the company the largest....... but the deal.

In D, 'to make it' is sounding awkward.
Also, 'as a part of a deal' also not very attractive

D is wrong.

'will' is necessary to keep the intent meaning of the sentence,
B, C and D are missing 'will'

Skeleton of the sentence:
The company announced that it will purchase the rival company for $950, which is a part of deal that will make it the largest...

Some thoughts:
1. Which refers to the immediate preceding noun.

=> So, which in A refers to $950. Is it the part of a deal? No. Purchasing the rival is the part of a deal. So, the use of which is NOT correct. Eliminate A.

2. Appositive:

=>Appositives are the words that are placed near the word that they refer to. Appositives cannot refer to the whole clause. So, in the options B and C " a part" and "part" refer to $950. The same mistake has been made in B and C as it is in A.

3. The skeleton of the option D is as follows:

The company announced that it will purchase the rival company for $950 as a part of deal to make it the largest.

See some examples:

I want to see me in the first position.

=>I cannot want me, rather I can want myself.

They are helping them. NOT CORRECT.
They are helping themselves. CORRECT.

So, the use of "It will purchase to make it" is not correct. It could be written as

"It will purchase to make itself"

Clearly E wins.

Let's insert A and E both in the sentence

A The computer company has announced that it will purchase the color- printing division for $950 million, which is part of a deal that will make it the largest manufacturer in the office color- printing market. - Which refers to whom? ambiguous

E The computer company has announced that it will purchase the color- printing division for $950 million as part of a deal that will make it the largest manufacturer in the office color- printing market. - this is clear sentence

releative pronouns modify the nouns just before them hence which will modify "millions" hence A is wrong

my question is why can I use "as part of"? isn't suppose to modify the noun before it???
what is the difference between which is part of and as part of?
