Ethical to apply to another Bschool when u have enrolled

Ethical to apply to another Bschool when u have enrolled

Dear Sir,
I would like to ask whether it is unethical to apply to another bschool that has better opportunities even better scholarships when you have enrolled at another because you didnt have any options at that point of time .

Obviously anyone getting admission to a school such as Harward would quit the school that he has already enrolled at .
We find many schools who admit schools just because they have a high GMAT to raise their own Average GMATs. Is that ethical ?
I would also like to ask you whether ETS is ethical in not providing a single official score with one time payment so that students can forward to the schools that they are applying to
I would also like to enquire whether schools are ethical in looking for their own self - interest in admitting "racehorses" who have the good fortune of having had the good opportunities at the right time.This causes even hardworking students who have been deprived of good opportunities to remain deprived of good opportunities even in the future.Because they havent had good opportunities in the past , they will not have good opportunities in the future . Are those self-professing schools that pride themselves on ethics ethical in supporting such a flawed system ?

To set the context right , I have enrolled at one school and have recently been interviewed by another who happened to say that I was being unethical just because I have already enrolled at one .
Dont I have the right to find the best opportunities for myself.
If I were to withdraw my application at the school that I have enrolled,there are 25 guys ready to take my place but if the school were to reject me i would have to waste another year looking for a school that will admit me ?

Am I pissed ?
Yes

Are people asking me to take it easy ?

The school may be wrong regarding the ethicality or inethicality of such an action. Yet, that does not disoblige you from being tactical and diplomatic. Meaning that even though trying to get the most out of your life has nothing wrong with it, it may be naive to think that the schools wouldn't care about it if they find out (because if they let this happen, then they are contributing to the ruination of their own market). So in such situations if you take such an action which you know the school would not appreciate if they discovered, then you might be better served by making sure they dont discover.

The School also had the problem that I was not transparent with the other school . She said that I should have informed the other schoolo that I am looking at other schools. Is there anything in US laws that support me ?

Should I send them a mail asking them whether people applying to b schools without informing their current employers is ethical ?
Should I speak to them about this before they give their decision

I need your guidance . I am highly grateful to since you might have also approached someone for guidance at some point in you career

Well I'm afraid its too late really for you to "Correct" things with this admissions committee this time around. Because this has nothing to do with "law" and there is no "law" which can help or harm you, its a matter of what is considered acceptable and not. And the schools naturally dont like it when someone who already got in a previous year applies to their program (because it can harm them if this happens to them). Its a matter of convention. I can only tell you at this point that you probably shouldn't have told them that. Now, you'll just have to wait to hear what they say. But I wouldn't hold out for an acceptance in this case.

Thanks for the reply seems as if the system penalizes people for speaking the truth while continuing to pretend to uphold ethics.
If I get rejected , Can i write a mail cribbing about the system and how i have been penalized for speaking the truth . Will I be Blacklisted for writing a counter mail attacking their values
Really this serves as a warning to anyone who might be trying to be honest.

Will the school talk to other schools about me considering the small world we are in ?

I wouldn't suggest that either. Again, by applying to the system and wanting yourself to go to Bschool, its only normal that you will have to make some efforts to work with the system. And you dont want to take any action that would result in you "shooting yourself in the foot" I don't think.

my attention has been brought to this thread (not necessarily by anyone who has actually posted in it).

i don't have much to add to jon's commentary -- and this is his backyard, not mine -- but i feel that the following comment is important enough to post here:
there are a lot of "unwritten rules" that govern situations like this one, and they're the same "unwritten rules" that guide much of what happens in the business world (among other things).
therefore, if you find this particular situation difficult to navigate, i would strongly suggest that you do some soul-searching about whether business management is the ideal career for you. in business management, almost all important decisions involve situations like this, complete with those pesky human factors; you will rarely, if ever, encounter formulaic decisions to which concrete rules can be applied.
