Distribution of questions in actual GMAT

by Due » Mon Feb 01, 2010 2:48 pm
Hello All,

I was just wondering about the actual distribution of questions in official GMAT. MGMAT is perticlarly bad in he sense that it alway throws the SC in second half and CR questions will come say 4-5 in a row.

Can people say how is it in atual GMAT or even in practise test GMATPrep.
ANy input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think they're pretty evenly distributed. It's not absolutely uncommon to see two or three CRs or SCs one after the other, but don't expect more than that. They're pretty mixed!

I took my first MGMAT Cat exam last week and I remember seeing 2 SC's and then 2 CR's and then RC... it was brutal! I don't mind tackling the RC but directly after 2 CR's it was not fun

Thanks Danaj, Say in the first 10 questions, I can expect to see an RC with 4 questions and 6 of RC + SC.

Yes, it's something like that - or maybe you'd start your second RC passage at around the 8th or 9th question... It depends, really... There's no definitive way of doing this! Besides that, I don't think anyone was ever had the curiosity (or the time) to see exactly what the distribution looks like during a real GMAT. It's simply not worth your time - better invest that in solving the stuff!

I second that notion danaj and one can only hope that they're all 700-800 level questions!

Thanks Danaj,
I was mainly upset by a MGMAT test that I wrote now. 5 CR followed by an RC of 85 lines which had just 3 questions and till 22 questions, only 4 SC quetions.

Such a distributin is highly unreallistic.

What do yo say abot this.

Thanks for your input.

whatever type you're sucking at is what they will throw at you in a row until you get one right. That's how it felt on my test anyway.

Indeed, such a distribution seems a bit lopsided. I think you should probably expect something reasonable on test day - I personally do not remember getting annoyed by too many SC questions in a row, for instance...

Also, Can the RC passages ever be as long as 85 lines as in MGMAT. There is one long RC in the actual GMAT , but even that is usually 55 lines, worst to wost 65 lines.

I haven't personally worried about the length of passages, although I have noticed that Kaplan passages tend to go waaaay over the top with length and convoluted writing. On the real thing, I think I had three decent-sized passages and a really long one about African Americans. However, sometimes it's a good idea to practice with harder stuff, since then the real GMAT will seem like a piece of cake :)

it's my understanding that the better you're doing the longer the passages become... i know when I see a long paragraph i'm like "OH DARN" even though, it could be read as a good thing.. or experimental.. but you know what I mean... when i finish a SC or CR I pray that it's not a RC passage... haha...
