Hi Hai,

In the above sentence usage of "that" is not correct because it can point to more than one antecedents...for instance that can point to positive effect, enviornment and natural resources or natural resources alone...

The correct sentence should be:

So-called green taxes, which exact a price for the use of polluting or renewable fuels, are having a positive effect on the environment and natural resources as varies as x, y &z.

OR

So-called green taxes, which exact a price for the use of polluting or renewable fuels, are having a positive effect on the environment and natural resources varying as x, y &z.

Kindly post the correct answer and also shoot if any further clarfication...

Received a PM asking me to comment on the last post.

First, PLEASE proofread after you've typed in your problems / questions - little mistakes can make a big difference. The sentence above is NOT the way it appears on GMATPrep, and the missing pieces make quite a big difference. (For instance, the word that the "that" is actually referring to? That word has not been typed into the above sentence - it's completely missing.)

Second, if you would like me to comment, please post the entire text of the problem, including the answer choices.

Third, you can take a look here for a previous (fairly long) discussion of this problem:

Please note: I do not use the Private Messaging system! I will not see any PMs that you send to me!!
