The fewer restrictions there are on the advertising of legal services, the more lawyers there are who
advertise their services, and the lawyers who advertise a specific service usually charge less for that service
than lawyers who do not advertise. Therefore, if the state removes any of its current restrictions, such as the one
against advertisements that do not specify fee arrangements, overall consumer legal costs will be lower than if
the state retains its current restrictions.

If the statements in the passage are true, which of the following must be true?

A. Some lawyers who now advertise will charge more for specific services if they do not have to specify fee
arrangements in the advertisements.
B. More consumers will use legal services if there are fewer restrictions on the advertising of legal service.
C. If the restriction against advertisements that do not specify fee arrangements is removed, more lawyers will

correct : "overall consumer legal costs will be lower than if the state retains its current restrictions" ,specifically states that some advertise who charge more will charge less if the states retains restriction and naturally it means that they are charging more curently.

B. More consumers will use legal services if there are fewer restrictions on the advertising of legal service.
incorrect : means exactly the opposite case of A

C. If the restriction against advertisements that do not specify fee arrangements is removed, more lawyers will
advertise their services.
Incorrect : We don't know about 'number" of lawers, we are talking about cost here


D. If more lawyers advertise lower prices for specific services, some lawyers who do not advertise will also
Incorrect : "specific services" has nothing to do with argument here.

Answer should be C, here's why

A. Fewer restriction --> B. more lawyers advertise --> C. these lawyers who advertise charge less for that service than those who don't

Now, if

Government removes any of its current restrictions --> (follows from A and B ) More Lawyers will advertise --> (follows from C) These lawyers (larger than the current group of lawyers) will charge less for that service than those who don't --> Hence,overall consumer legal costs will be lower than if the state retains its current restrictions

Which is what C states without going beyond the given info


C. If the restriction against advertisements that do not specify fee arrangements is removed, more lawyers will
advertise their services.

hrishi19884, I think you read little wrong here,

A. Some lawyers who now advertise will charge more for specific services if they do not have to specify fee
arrangements in the advertisements.
correct : "overall consumer legal costs will be lower than if the state retains its current restrictions" ,specifically states that some advertise who charge more will charge less if the states retains restriction and naturally it means that they are charging more currently.

Conclusion is actually opposite to the bold text.
So, A is clearly wrong.

B : Not mentioned in the passage
C: Arg clearly states that fewer the restriction, more lawyers will advertise the service.
'The fewer restrictions there are on the advertising of legal services, the more lawyers there are who advertise their services, .. '
D: Not mentioned in the passage

Correct Ans : C
