Difference in Kaplan books?

by StuckInALoopHole » Sat Feb 06, 2010 12:45 am
Can someone please tell me the difference between the GMAT 800(by Kaplan) (I think now called Kaplan Advanced) and Kaplan Premier Program books?

Is it true that the only difference is that one comes with a CD and the other without? Perhaps people who have used one or both of these resources could shed some light? (In India, both the books on the shelves do not have a CD but the ones on Amazon do). Is the Kaplan Advanced, as the name suggests, more advanced? and is the GMAT 800 off the market?

I have the OG 11, Manhattan SC and couple of others in the series, but have been told that I must work on the Kaplan to get into the high scoring league.

So, once again, which one is a better choice? Which one of these would you recommend? - Kaplan Advanced or the Kaplan Premier Program book? (and why?).

thank you!
- A confused soul

There are definitely differences between Kaplan Advanced and Kaplan Premier. Kaplan advanced mainly just presents you with difficult problems and they have the solutions to those problems but the book does not teach concepts. Kaplan Premier teaches concepts but the difficulty level of the problems leaves a lot to be desired. If you are just beginning your studies, I would recommend Kaplan Premier. I think its a great starting point for anyone that is studying on his/her own. Get the Kaplan Advanced, only if you run out of material. Good luck.

thanks Osirus!

I have the OG 11 and OG 12, a couple of the MGMAT math books. Also have the MGMAT SC, RC and CR books.
So now, which one of the two Kaplan books would you recommend?

I hear and read a lot of stuff like, 'you must crack the Kaplan to ace the exam'. Two questions here:
1- Is it true?
and
2- which Kaplan book am I supposed to ace? Since I now know that they are both on very different levels of difficulty, I'm in a tight spot.
