Eager to go to a top 10 school in 2008

by Nisha1218 » Wed May 09, 2007 1:43 pm
Stacy,

I recently struggled with the GMAT and still haven't broken a 600! I took the risk anyways and applied to a top 10 school for Fall 2007 because I felt I strong in my other areas (GPA - 3.75, 5 yrs of work experience at a large financial corp.,etc).

I wasn't surprised when I got my rejection letter but I thought I just might have been waitlisted. I tried to ask the committee how I could improve for next year, but didn't get much feedback from them.

So my questions to you are:
1) do you think my rejection was was solely due to my GMAT score?
2) do you think I should write a letter to the Director or Head of
Admissions with the hope he gives me feedback?

Please advise. I want to make sure I can get in next year. :(

Not sure what school you applied to but there are some schools that give feedback and others do not! If they said no, it is probably a no.

There are people admitted to every top schools with a sub 600 GMAT, but they are few and far between and you would have to have a lot going for you in other areas. I have ot seen the rest of your app, but my guess is that the GMAT weighed heavily.

Thanks Stacy!

Do top 10 schools even read your app if you dont' mind their general criteria? (I.E. do they have a filter system in place to only retrieve the applications that meet what they're looking for)

YES they read it!! But is your essays are weak it may be a quick scan. Strong essays can help you overcome low scores.
