Simply because they are genetically engineered does not make it any more likely for plants to become an invasive according to a decade-long study published in the journal Nature.

I'm guessing the underlining is as I put it above.

Because the singular "an invasive" comes in the non-underlined portion, we can eliminate "plants" and any plural pronouns replacing "plants"; eliminate A and C.

Choice B uses "it" before the noun that "it" is replacing--on the GMAT, this is bad style; eliminate B.

Choice E is far too wordy; eliminate E.

We are left with D, which even though it has "being" in it, must be the correct answer.

Choose D.
