for canned soup

The regular price for canned soup was reduced during a sale. How much money could one have saved by purchasing a dozen 7-ounce cans of soup at the reduced price rather than at the regular price?

(1) The regular price for the 7-ounce cans was 3 for a dollar.

(2) The reduced price for the 7-ounce cans was 4 for a dollar.

IMO C.

From statement 1, The regular price of a dozen 7 ounce canned soup = 12/3 = 4 dollars. This alone is insufficient to know the amount saved.

From statement 2, The reduced price of a dozen 7 ounce canned soup = 12/4 = 3 dollars. This alone is insufficient to know the amount saved.

Combining the two together, we see that the amount saved by availing the discount is 1 dollar. This answers the question.

Thus C should be correct.
