Hi,

I need little help regarding my preparation.I just gave practice test on 800Score.com and i got 480(Q45V14) cumulative score.
I gave the mock test after one month preparation and i thought that i should take a mock test to know where stand in terms of preparation. But after seeing the score i am completely shattered as i feel whatever i did for past month was just a waste of time.I expected around 640-650.

I used E-gmat Verbal and Quant Course for preparation and I was getting 70-80% on average in their topic wise tests.
I have zero confidence now when it comes to Verbal section and i was planning to take GMAT on 2nd Oct.

Can someone guide me as i am losing hope that i can clear GMAT.I had a goal score of 740.What should i do to achieve 740.

Hi gt11tiwari,

Based on your recent practice test score of 480, it's extremely unlikely that you are going to be able to raise your GMAT score over 250 points by October 2nd. However, before providing any further advice I would like to learn some more about your GMAT experience and MBA goals. So I have a few questions:

1) Describe your study routine. For how many hours a day have you been studying and for how many total months? Have you been using any resources besides EGMAT?

2) Have you taken any official MBA.com practice tests? If so, could you provide the score breakdowns from those exams? When you took the practice tests, did you take them under realistic conditions (e.g. in a quiet environment, no extended breaks)?

3) To what schools do you plan to apply?

4) What deadlines are you targeting?

5) Are you able to take the GMAT later than October 2nd?

Hi gt11tiwari,

Many Test Takers are unhappy with their initial CAT scores, so you're not alone. It's worth noting that this is just the first of many CATs that you're going to take, so you should look at all of this as part of the broader learning experience. Many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so it's likely that you just have not put in enough time and effort yet to have scored higher. Given your score goal, you'll likely need another 2-3 months (or more) of consistent, guided study to hit your score goals.

1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
2) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

I suggest that you study as you see fit for the next week, with an emphasis on the Verbal section, then take one of the Official GMAC CATs (with the Essay and IR sections). Once you have that score, you should report back here.
