Nothing can guarantee a score, buddy.

But your first starting point should be reviewing your Prep test. See what went wrong, where you are weak and where you are strong. That should set you on your path.

Get the right books. Browse "I just beat the Gmat" forum for success stories and get the best books.

You can share more info, like what books you have been using etc that will help the forum give you better help.
MGMAT SC and Powerscore RC are must buys. So are Official guides.
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

well..i got 43 in Quant ..and the only problems where I did mistakes, were all related to Data sufficiency..I know i have to work on it.
But the main problem is with my verbal (in which I scored a mere 21), whenever I attempt the questions individually I hit the right answers (most of the times) but whenever I try to attempt a bunch of questions (altogether) then I'm never able to, get the majority of them correct....

gbisnik1, please try and practice under timed conditions.

Say you practice 41 verbal questions.

Have a look that how many mistakes you do in the questions 1-10 or 11-20 or 21-30 or 31-41.

is it that you fumble in the initial few questions?

or

is it that you get tired and are not able to perform optimally?

or

is it that you do not have enough time in hand and miss out on the last few questions?

Please preserve the data you collect with each test.

If you fall in case 1, then it basically some priming of the pump :) , try and practice a few questions as starters before you actually give a test. Try and observe that is it the time when you are not at your best? (say maybe after work , or maybe early morning when you have just woken up)

If you fall in case 2, then it basically means that you need to practice a lot. Try to sit with a set of questions, do practice in little chunks, maybe work for 75 full minutes. Try work on your stamina, both physical and mental.

If you fall in case 3, then it would mean that you need to work on your pacing/timing. A common pitfall is spending too much time on a couple of questions. Just try and avoid questions basically you can resolve but shall take too much time. It better to sit and review the shortest possible way to solve a question , rather than spending 4 minutes on a question.

As a thumb rule do not stop on any question for more than 3 minutes.
Also keep a log of mistakes/questions which took you too much time.
Review them say every weekend...and you we shall see you going places!!
