Dear Friends,

I was having problems in answering the following question.

In her later poems, Phyllis Wheatley's blending of solar imagery, Judeo-Christian thought and figures, and the images she borrowed from ancient classicism suggesting her range and depth of influences, not the least of which is her African heritage.

(A) the images she borrowed from ancient classicism suggesting
(B) borrowing images from ancient classicism, suggests
(C) she borrowed images from ancient classicism, which suggests
(D) images borrowed from ancient classicism suggests
(E) images that she borrowed from ancient classicism, suggesting

Please help.

OA after some discussions.

Regards
Deano.

Blending of X (solar imagery), Y (judeo christian thought and figures), and Z (images borrowed) suggests.

A C E - uses she which is not necessary here
borrowed images is wrong - eliminate B

IMO D.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

A/C/ E: SHE intends to refer to Phyllis Wheatley's (non-possessive pronoun refering to possessive noun IS WRONG USAGE). Moreover, they lack a main verb (note, BORROWED is not attached to BLENDING) making these sentences fragments

B vs D

B - "solar imagery, Judeo-Christian thought and figures, and.." Parts in BOLD are noun phrases and therefore we need a noun phrase after AND. "Borrowing images" intends to show ACTIVITY + NOUN making it not parallel with phrases before AND. Moreover IMO the COMMA before SUGGETS is not correct - making doing this author intends to separate subjects and verb.

IMO D
