IMO A

from 1:
x^2 > 9
therefore, x<-3. SUFFICIENT.

from 2:
x^3 < -9
(-2)^3 = -8 and (-3)^3=-27
therefore x can take values greater than -3 and less than -3 too. NOT SUFFICIENT
