Profile Evaluation: 690 GMAT, 3.5 GPA

by Bball5515 » Mon Oct 24, 2011 5:23 pm
Hello,

I'm interested in getting some input on my chances at a few MBA programs I'm applying to for next fall. My target schools are Ross, Fuqua, Johnson and Anderson. Here are the highlights of my profile:

-690 GMAT (43 Q, 43V). I actually just re-took and got a 650 and am curious if this will have any negative affect on my candidacy.
-3.5 GPA at top 50 U.S college with major in communications and minor in finance
-4 years work experience as of October 2011. 3 years in finance marketing until I switched to a management consulting position one year ago. I have a 5 month gap in employment between jobs because I left my old job for family reasons.
-Strong extra curriculars both at college and since.
-Study abroad program in Spain for my junior year of college.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

From what you have written, things are looking pretty good. You have a good GMAT, a solid GPA, and what seems to be strong work experience.

You can add one or two schools to that list. I would say NYU seems an obvious choice. And maybe Fuqua. (or any other school that fits you)

Thanks for the feedback. Do you think the fact that I got a lower score on my second GMAT will adversely impact my candidacy at these schools or do they only care about my highest score (690)?

Hi

It would not hamper/diminish your impression or chances. Approximately 21% percent of GMAT tests are taken by repeat test-takers who have taken the test more than once within a year, which may end up either way.

We would like to know more about your post mba goals to speak on prospective colleges.

Nah, it's cool. Everybody retakes, and LOTS of people get lower.
