At the end of year X was the number of self employed men more than twice the number of self-employed women?
1) from the end of year X to the end of the year Y the number of self employed men increased by 47 thousand, which was an increase of 1 percent, and the number of self employed women increased by 213 thousand, which was an increase of 10 percent.
2)at the end of year X, there were 257 million more self-employed men than self employed women.

The answer is A....i just try using percentage change formula to find the answer [Original (1+percent increase/100) = New......Is the method i employed right? anyone with better idea???

Yes. Statement I is sufficient to answer this question.

=> Say at the end of Yr. X, # of Men were x, then at the end of Yr. Y, it would be x+47000. Now given is 47000 = 1% of x. So x= 4700000.

=> Similarly, say at the end of Yr. X, # of women were y, then at the end of Yr. Y, it would be y+213000. Given is 213000 = 10% of y. So y= 2130000.

So we know the values of both the entities to compare. So statement I is sufficient.

Statement II

Given is X=Y+257. We cannot make any conclusion out of this.

So the answer is A.
