HI abhasjha,

This SC revolves around a Comparison.

1) Comparison: To figure out what the comparison is supposed to be, we have to look past the underlined portion to the part of the sentence that we can't change. Here, the phrase "virtually every other immigrant group..." tells us what we're supposed to compare: an immigrant group to other immigrant groups. Eliminate A, D and E (they compare "rates" to immigrant groups, which is not correct).

2) Comparison Pt. 2: Between B and C, we have to read and confirm the actual comparison taking place. Answer B starts with the immigrant group, but then compares that group's rates to....every other immigrant group. Answer C starts with the immigrant group, but then compares that group's rates to THOSE (rates) of every other immigrant group. B makes the same mistake that A, D and E made; it just does so a little later on in the answer. Eliminate B.

Final Answer: C

Hi abhasjha,

Mideast immigrants' rates of entrepreneurship exceed virtually every other immigrant group in the increasingly diverse United States economy.

(A) Mideast immigrants' rates of entrepreneurship exceed
Wrong: the sentence compares "rates" with immigrant groups. Makes no sense to compare a group of people with rates.

(B) Mideast immigrants are exhibiting rates of entrepreneurship exceeding
Wrong: rates are being compared with immigrant groups.

(C) Immigrants from the Mideast exhibit rates of entrepreneurship exceeding those of
Correct: rates of entrepreneurship of Mideasts are compared with rates of entrepreneurship of other immigrant groups. Comparing rates with rates is good.

(D) The rates of entrepreneurship in immigrants from the Mideast exceed
Wrong: compares rates with immigrant groups

(E) The rates of Mideast immigrants' entrepreneurship exceeds those of
Wrong: subject verb agreement error. Exceeds should be plural because its subject "rates" is plural.

Hope it helps,
