Seeming to be the only orgainisation fighting for the rights of poor people in the south, Hosea Hudson, a labourer in Alabama, joined the communist party in 1931.

(A) Seeming to be
(B) As
(C) In that they seemed
(D) Since it seemed
(E) Because it seemed to be


Seeming to be one of the few corporations diversified enough to survive the recession, many shareholders ignored the drop in third-quarter profits and invested even more heavily in Emco.
(A) Seeming to be
(B) As if
(C) In that they seemed
(D) Although it seemed
(E) Because it seemed to be

I think the answers are both E because this answer choice doesn't change the subject of the sentence and doesn't make the sentence sound awkward or unidiomatic.

the forst part of the sentence before the comma must refer the communist party

(A) Seeming to be (I DON'T LIKE :) )
(B) As (CONSTRUCTION PROBLEM)
(C) In that they seemed (WHO ARE THEY?/ELIMINATE)
(D) Since it seemed (MEANING PROBLEM)
(E) Because it seemed to be ("IT" REFERS TO THE COMMUNIST PARTY) CORRECT

(A) Seeming to be (SAME LOGIC WITH THE FIRST QUESTION)
(B) As if (CONSTRUCTION PROBLEM)
(C) In that they seemed (MUST REFER TO EMCO, NOT THEY)
(D) Although it seemed (CHANGE THE MEANING)
(E) Because it seemed to be CORRECT)

I am not good at SC. If my explanation is wrong, please let me know ;)

There looks something wrong about the question , because the antecedent for the pronoun or the pronoun/noun being referred to by the modifier should come directly after the comma.

Seeming to be the only orgainisation fighting for the rights of poor people in the south, Hosea Hudson, a labourer in Alabama, joined the communist party in 1931.

The portion in bold should be - Communist part , because that is the antecedent for the 'it'.
Please check me if I am wrong .
What is the OA for the two ?

In question 2 , if one of the few organizations is referring to Emco , they why not the modifying phrase be immediately followed by Emco rather than by share holders ?

What is the source of the question ?

E for both. Only E sounds right with the tense and meaning.
I am not sure about A in second one though..

In 1, the modifier is modifying Hosea Hudson, when it should be modifying the communist party

Out of all the choices though, only E looks good

In 2 , E is correct. It explains a cause and effect

In the second SC, options A, B and C are wrong as they are referring to the shareholders instead of company.

Option D is wrong because it is using "although", which is used for showing contrast. But the intent of the question is to show the cause-effect.

So option E is the correct answer for the second SC.

Can anybody tell whats the difference between options D and E in the first SC?

Isn't option E wrong because of the usage of extra form of verb "to be" unnecessarily?
