how to arrive at the answer:
Statement I: hmm... will have an equation with n^2 ... i may end up with positive and negative... but since only positive values will make sense, this will be sufficient

Statement II: ok, i have total amount... so using 'n' and the total amount, i can set set up an equation here too...end up with a quadratic (just as i did in Statement I) .. only positive values are acceptable... so this is also sufficient by itself

--> Choice D

If you are interested, here are the solutions for each statement (please don't solve DS questions)
I
500n = 1/16 (500n + 500n^2)
16 x 500n = 500n (1+n)
16 = 1+n
n = 15

II
500n + 500n^2 = 120000
500n (1+n) = 120,000
n (n+1) = 240
n = 15

Another interesting obsrevation, which many students don't realize is that both statements give the same answer... this will always be the case for DS questions where the correct answer is D

2-->4

3-->9

4-->16

So the eqn is 500n+500n^2

From stmt1,

500n=1/16(500n+500n^2)

n=15

Suff

From stmt2,

500n+500n^2=120000

n=15

suff

Hence D
