competition

by kanha81 » Mon Jun 08, 2009 10:42 am
Three teams, A, B and C each have five members. The three teams competed in a three-event competition. Five points were awarded to the winner of each event, four points to the second and three points to the third. (No points were awarded for lower positions). Which team won the competition?

1.No team scored fewer points than C, which scored 11 points.
2.Team A won two events and came second in the third event.

I don't get this. Clearly Team A is the winner with option 2

IMO B

A. Team C got 11 points.. 4+4+3
C was 2nd in two events and third in one event. No team had fewer points.. so other teams scored >=11

combinations -
5,5,5 and 4,3,3 - not possible as 4,3,3 is less than 11
5,5,4 and 3,3,5
5,3,5 and 3,5,4

Insufficient

B. Team A won 2 and was second in third - 5,5,4
Only score higher than it could be 5,5,5. No other team could have higher than 5,4,4. So team A is winner.

Its clearly A

max possible point = 15 A got 14 and A won 2 games out of the 3 so maximum b could get is 4+4+5 = 13 so by statement II A wins

I think the question should be:
how many points did each team score?
(if the OA is C)

otherwise its clearly B
The powers of two are bloody impolite!!
