Problems repeated in Kaplan test

by aimscore » Tue Nov 09, 2010 3:24 pm
Hi All,

I recently gave 2 separate Kaplan tests ( Kaplan premier )and saw that quite a few problems were repeated !! (Math + Verbal)
I therefore felt that my score wasnt reflecting my real score. Since I had already seen those questions I hardly wasted any time on then and I completed my Math section far before the stipulated 75 mins!!

I wanted to check with the members of this forum if you guys have faced a similar problem.
if yes, how should I exactly gauge my score !!

Thanks

Hi aimscore,

I'm sorry you felt like the Kaplan CATs were giving you trouble. I'm quite surprised--our CATs definitely shouldn't repeat problems. Is it possible you took the same CAT twice, or reset your records between taking tests? Alternately, you might have faced a computer bug.

Either way, please contact our publishing division's customer care line at [email protected]. They'll be able to help you out with more specific details, and if you have stumbled across a software error on our part, they'll forward it on to be fixed.

Regardless, I hope you don't throw out your results. Your score might have been a few points higher than you'd otherwise expect, but you can still check your answers on the individual questions and compare your performance across questions. In addition, doing the same problems twice, though not what you were aiming for in this case, can be helpful as a way to make sure you'r applying the Kaplan methods and are reinforcing your strategies!

Keep up the good work. In the mean time, let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!

KapTeacherEli,

Thanks for responding ! So, I started out with first CAT practice test 1, finished the whole math section and as much as I dint wish to, I had to quit halfway through verbal :(
So I reached out to kaplan support and they reset that particular test for me !

After a few days I took my practice test 2 ( Pls note I did not take practice test 1 again) but then I saw all my questions repeating !! Since I had decided that I would do a completely "new" test, I quit that one as well ! I know it was stupid of me to do so:( but I wanted to gauge my improvement..

So I finally took Practice 3 - and yes they repeated once again, but then I did give the entire test !! I thought that each test would be individually programmed.. :(

As you pointed out, I assume this whole goof up was because I reset my test :(
what do I do now? Is there any way I can better utilise my Kaplan tests??

Would appreciate it if you could help me with this..

On a lighter note : Yes I did get a 53 in my quant as opposed to my earlier 48 :) Made me happy although I know I didnt really deserve it :)

Hi aimscore,

Unfortunately, there isn't much to be done. Resetting your first test returned your questions to the question pool, meaning they could show up on any of your future tests--I'm sorry you weren't given a heads up about this possibility when the reset happened.

As for what you can do, the best thing is stick with it. Even if the tests seem a little easy due to some repeat content, you'll see a lot of new stuff as well; meanwhile, timed practice of problems new and old is good for your pacing.

Hope this helps!
