x = (1/2) of y
Therefore, (1/2) of x = (1/4) of y

New content of y = (2/3) of y + (1/2) of x = (2/3) of y + (1/4) of y = (2/3 + 1/4) of y = (11/12) of y

Now y is 11/12 full.

Thanks that what I thought also but I did it by picking numbers, namely 300L and 600L. So x has a 300L capacity it is half so it has 150L then y is a 600L capacity and at 2/3 it has 400 L . Adding the x to the y you get 550 out of 600. Making it 55/60 = 11/12

Hi,

I used the 'picking numbers' method and it really worked good for me. I was able to solve the question in less than a minute.

Hint: when picking numbers, pick as smaller numbers as you can. Instead of picking 600L and 300L you might consider picking 60L and 30L.

Cheers!
