Is it E ?

We are asked to justify the variation in mortality rates leading to smaller
groups from spring through early autumn.

A - weakens the argument
B - cannot conclude. We just know it varies
C - Cannot conclude. If anything it can weaken the argument
D - If winters are harsh, the group size should reduce in winter. We
are told that the voles live in larger groups through winter

E strengthens the argument.

In my opinion E is the most logical one.
