Flaw in reasoning

by heshamelaziry » Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:06 am
Although research has been conducted regarding the safety of nuclear energy, no study has declared nuclear energy to be unsafe. A group of supporters of nuclear energy have cited this research as certain proof that nuclear energy is safe.

Which of the following is a flaw in the reasoning of the supporters of nuclear energy?

They neglect to provide detailed information about the evidence used to support the conclusion.

There is a lack of evidence contradicting a claim as conclusive evidence for that claim.

They overlook the possibility that other forms of energy might be safer.

They are motivated by a biased interest in proving the energy source safe.

They assume that the scientists performing the research are doing so under properly controlled conditions.

Supporters conclude on the basis of lack of evidence that nuclear energy is unsafe. Just because there is no evidence to conclude that nuclear energy is unsage cannot be considered an evidence that nuclear energy is safe.

there is no evidence which says that nuclear energy is unsafe...simply the lack of this evidence is taken as conclusive evidence that nuclear energy is safe...

option B summarizes this beautifully and hence is the answer...

i would suggest that you read flaw in the reasoning chapter from powerscore CR bible...it will help you a lot in cracking such questions in short time...
