Need Tips for Improving Score

by boydfink2005 » Tue Aug 21, 2012 7:03 pm
This past Saturday I took one of the practice tests given by the Free GMAT Prep Software downloaded from mba.com. I scored a 440, even though I admittedly was in my apartment and didn't utilize all of the time given. I am hoping to take the test in November. Does anyone have any tips/advice for raising my score to my needed 570 by that time? Thanks in advance.

I would recommend you either to do a course which would cover all the theory tested in the GMAT or to use books which include theory and not just practice. Only after you go through the material, you can start practising with the Official Guide.

What was your score breakdown? Are you significantly stronger in one area over another?

Your score is based on your content knowledge (math topics, grammar, critical reasoning skills, etc) as well as your test-taking skills (mainly time management and stress management).

Be sure to devote sufficient time to strengthening each.

While practicing questions in the OG13, I suggest that you enter your answers in the Improvement Chart (found here: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/gmat-error-log). This will help identify your areas of weakness.

To help direct your studies, you might consider signing up for BTG's free 60-Day Study Guide: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/gmat-guide
This will ensure that you cover everything that the GMAT tests.

Cheers,
